One HUGE difference IMHO, is that you need a second device for the Chromecast - For example, for me to stream ESPN, I need either my phone/tablet first to install the ESPN application or the Chrome browser on my laptop/desktop, while on the Apple TV, its right there with no setup.
You can imagine how frustrated I was since my iPhone - 16GB virtually has no space and for me to view NBA on ESPN, I had to look for an app to delete so that I can install ESPN. And am more of a Safari user than Chrome user too :-(
