For companies that us it locally, I only know of Safaricom and some International Research companies like CDC,ILRI

But if you get someone to train them on R, it can save the situation. There is also simplified R enterprise by Revolution Analytics (Acquired by Microsoft), you can check that too.

From SAS website, it seems like it is at least a three tier system (server  to end user). My queries: 

• Is there anyone out there that has interacted with SAS? 
• Does it scale down or should I also include a server along with their request?
  
• Are there alternatives that are not as large scale as SAS?
