If u still majorly rpm - then mandriva fedora are closest match for u - they draw a lot from redhat; In both cases there are ample gui tools to get mysql running with less man/hrs. For Mandr* there is the control center; You can use it to install, and run mysql. For Fedora Pirut ; RPM distro provides the service option to managed those daemons - its friendly. There is a webmin <http://www.webmin.com/> rpm package
