If Safaricom contracted you to do an advert for them, how would you charge? As a local Company or by looking at the figures it posts on the press?
Sincerely speaking, if you quote a price less than what they usually pay, you are not likely to get the contract.

Companies tend to believe that if you are serious about doing business with them, then you must be rich enough. Meaning that a quote of less amount, which could be higher at the market vallue, is seen as a way of making yourself rich.
But looking at it from another angle, a new company charging higher than the normal market rates, is likely to miss a contract. Why? because it is a new kid on the block and there is no way it can talk of high market rates yet it still in the infancy stage.

Have you noticed too, that the government's tenders for civil construction will always be granted to the highest bidder. An example is the construction of NHIF at Community. I hear the contractor quoted prices seven times the normal rates, back then. Imagine a piece of stone costing 13 shilling being bought for 91Shillings? Or a bag of cement going for say, Kshs. 350, being bought for say, Shs, 2,450.

@ Edward, njaa si mingi, it's all got to do with the company one is dealing with.
An example, if the president's grandchild is celbrating birthday and you are contracted to take photos and video for the event, you wouldn't charge some few thousand Shillings. You might even charge per hour! But for a person on the lower cadre of society, you can do it for free.
