WooH...!

Damn! Techies, I really like the way we point out the faults too! I agree, we are good at this!!!

I also agree with Jack ICTB and e-Gov et al have some very brilliant initiatives going and am sure we'll see ICT in Government making some good changes and contributing to reforms. It'd be nice if there is a way we can join in and make it real for e-Government initiatives.

Certainly,I agree with Kiti Chigiri that e-Goverment websites and other web applications need to develop or adopt a strong & standardized code-base / framework that will provide options for say, single-sign on or content syndication, on all e-Gov initiatives. A governance framework of some sorts. This would lighten-up e-Gov so much!

Ooh.....and I second or third the motion to register Skunkworks KE as a business entity!

Most of the govt websites are done by kenyaweb.com, who seem to have a
preference over JOOMLA. The govt's ICT guys should not be blamed if
the ISP is the problem. On restering skunkworks as a business unit, a
plan should already be in place... like yersterday morning!

yeah the IPs are from Zain and Safcom most likely from dongles.
Someone just learned how to do it.

Seen this before, was a rootkit running on a poorly secured *nix box
that was poorly secured.

Usually IRC bots, but could be different. At least was IRC then. The
rootkit does the brute force attack and reports back to an IRC channel
once it hits another box, then that can be used to relay spam, porn,
warez...the works....and oh yes, another brute force attack.

Steve, these are not IRC bots. I have worked with such. These are
coming from direct IPs, am sure these are dongles.

IRC bots jump from one Zombie to another depending on the networks
that the herder has compromised.

This morning going to google.co.ke I kept being redirected to other sites!
Other goggle properties open fine.

Anyone else with a similar experience?

Solomon Mburu,

you give us (kenyaweb) way to much credit ('blushing') the truth is we have
done a number of government sites no more than other sectors ad say about 8
or so (we have an odd forty something ministries) what we like about them is
the potential functionality they possess over and above the subjective
maridadi issues and of course the future impact they will have on citizens
as the govt consolidates its technologies and moves more into online
systs....al kags and paul kukubo if ictb, egov et al can tell you about the
brilliant initatives they have...some are already functional....we take
pride that we were apart of this.

On Joomla, well nothing beats a quality open source system that has a jet
engine and says the starship enterprise probably has its warp engines
running me! :-)

rgds
jack ngare

ps
no the sites under review were not done by us.
