An interesting read: http://www.theverge.com/2012/2/16/2786970/FRAND-smartphone-industry-apple-mo... "everything from USB to HDMI to Blu-ray is governed by a standard group, and most of them work well together. But the sheer amount of money and potential in the mobile industry has thrown things way off the rails" Which in some way explains why the mobile industry in Kenya is considered by potential investors or those already in it as a hardball industry. But as Brian says lets wait and see. On 4/3/12, Brian L <lusiola@gmail.com> wrote:
The idea apple has is to start its own MN operations. That was Steve Jobs dream. Something I read last week is brewing towards that option, lets wait and see.

Apple once even tried to convince US & UK operators that consumers do not need detachable SIM cards and have all SIM features embedded on the phone, but the idea fell off on the way!

They didn't get in to the SIM Card Business, because there is no SIM card business. What Apple is trying to do is push for a micro-SIM standard even smaller than the current micro-SIM so that they can be able to make smaller and thinner devices.
On the other camp is Nokia, Motorola pushing for a different standard.
