Aki, On this specific issue, I shall reiterate that I cannot comment for the ICT Board and I will not. However, by copy of this email, I have copied the CEO of the ICT Board and he may be able to respond. Paul, kindly see Aki's enquiry on the Skunkworks list below and advice. Thanks. Hey Al, I'd like to go off subject a bit ( sorry listers ), since I was not aware of the official capacities on this list esle would have directed the earlier thread to your attention. ( pls correct as necessary ).
- my initiative is to call on govt to remove all taxes in ICT sector for a 15 year period ( to fast pace time lost ). For internet services and internet access, VAT should be scrapped to lower costs to end users and to create cheaper access to services. For areas that do not have infrastructure or have poor facilities, the govt should allow tax breaks to businesses who are willing to setup there. CCK should also have a licensing scheme to aid community and closed networks achieve infrastucture with minimum expense. Products that assist develop such networks should be exempt from all taxes.
Is there any remote chance that ICT Board can fast track this or even push it for implementation? Kenya definately needs its. I'm no economist but can go into some details of its importance.
