Joseph,

Even though you never come back your feedback will help us improve future meets.

With a 90% market share on desktops we cannot ignore the Windows API. What is the ROI on Desktop Linux that just crossed past the 1% market share on desktops?

Web apps = server side apps = best developed by communities / companies. Yah? Gifted Solo Movers (= Micro ISV's) can focus on desktop or mobile apps but will Web app (stores) not generate more sales for their mobile or desktop apps?

Hi Murigi and everyone,

Sorry if you found my language less than civil.

What I meant was that the speakers kept making snide comments about free software that were simply not true, like they were totally clueless.

As for whether one can ignore the Windows API, or whether there's anything wrong with using .NET, I think it's a decision the user has to make for himself. But you should realise that there's life outside .NET and Windows. And for those who value free software, it isn't a hard decision to make.

And as for whether it's easier to monetise desktop or Web apps, it really depends on what you're trying to do, and your business model. There's a lot to consider in these things. But also, it's not always about money.

Joseph.
