
@Odhis, Orange Kenya you mean? I'm not sure they do...but considering the subscriber base, it may not be justified/obliged to do it. Fair usage is mostly applied by operators with large numbers of subscribers just to ensure a few individuals dont hog network resources....like what happened previously with safcom's unlimited offers ...it only took a few individuals to bring a network to its knees... Most Orange networks in other countries apply fair usage...i know there was one targeting specifically for iphone users in the US...some unlimited package for a month..and there's one in TeliaSonera targeting P2P protocols like bittorrent(although most p2p users prefer ADSL, for obvious reasons). It might be important to understand where we're coming from. We've always been talking about the high expectations of internet costs coming down as a result of the fibre. So when this does not seem happen, we've been looking at the services with close scrutiny.
Probably there dynamics that have hindered this from happening and I would not pretend to understand any of them. I think someone would probably agree with this - and many disagree.
The service providers would seem to be the first ones on the receiving end in all this and it would be quite difficult to meet people's expectation in such an environment.
That said, I think this is the point I also do agree with Joseph, whereby this scrutiny becomes suspicion; if I get exited that I have an unlimited offer that's appealing, and overlooked the details, (devil in the details...) which an average person does, I'll become disappointed.
Would want to try and get into these 'dynamics' issue, and ask, whose contribution is it, and what needs to happen? How has it happened elsewhere?
