@James. My current argument, though drawn from a list of issues is this. When using an OS like Linux, even when i was using RH2.7 about 16 years ago, it was a bitch to set up. But once up, the issues were only related to the admin section of the OS i.e. cache purging and DHCP Lease renewals etc. that i was still learning to use. An OS like Mac OS 10.5 onward requires so little work that it's pleasing to the general public. Windows, from as far back as i remember windows 95 and NT for admin since you are basing your point on an admin's perspective when administering, even with the MCSE track and experience to back me, i have still had to worry about a good number of issues that recurred in and got worse in win 2K server, Win 2k3 server and then i gave up on windows. Now, revert to my argument where i explain that this machine is for my parents. Yes, i can take care of the issues, that is not my problem. My problem is, in over 13 years, windows has not got to the place where it is stable. It is better, i would say 4-5 times better to the older OS's. It is beautiful as an OS. An example is, i bought a piece of Hardware for the OS. A firewire card and plugged it in. It picked up immediately ( thumbs up to Windows for drivers ). And then i plugged my camcorder in. BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH! Unplug the camcorder. restart the machine. Plug it back in. It works. That's not how things work for me if im a consumer. I can hack all this because i've been doing it with even worse operating systems.. well, they're better OS's but setup was more difficult. My point is this. If Microsoft was bent on making a brilliant operating system, Apple would have been flattened by now. With the marketshare and revenue Microsoft has, it can still do it. But they're too distracted by all the revenue coming in from support and from antiviruses and from issues they put in which they benefit from, which is why i asked about the whole rewriting. And you can't tell me it's only the Crème *de la* Crème who can get a hold of the OS's source code. I'm sure with a bit of research i can pull it out from somewhere. Making sense? Watchman. Your problem is still not quite clear. Is it a virus problem or a VGA driver problem. If you can clarify the issue and post your hardware specifications then we may be able to give you a full proof solution tho your issue.
Rewriting any version of windows is next to impossible. MS only shares its source code with a select few Crème *de la* Crème corporations and reverse engineering requires that you posses expert advanced knowledge and experience with x86, IA32, AMD64 and IA64 assembly and machine code.
One thing you should note about operating systems is that if you operate them like a true admin you will get the best out of them regardless of architecture or type.
