I think for postpaid to work and get value for such service we need to rethink how to punish defaulters of a contract. Both the parties, the customer and service provider. In developed countries you don't default on a contract and walk away. If we have consequences then providers will have a reason to give real offers on the prepay. And whats with telcos with promoting on net traffic, they should have quality services to lure customers to their side not on the pricing alone. What happened to number portability.
Apart from phone contracts - such as the discounted iPhone etc, we pay a deposit equal to the maximum limit, both on Zain and Safaricom, so for me it's a zero sum game, they almost always have my money. When my usage hit's my deposit, I'm automatically disconnected. Worst case scenario for them is me not paying and them reimbursing themselves with the deposit. Additionally, I don't understand why we are not at least 10-15% cheaper as they don't have to go through a channel. When I pay 1000, it all goes to Safaricom. When you buy the equivalent scratch card, some goes to the shop keeper, more to the distributore etc. And you don't have a fixed monthly fee (252, Safaricom, 350 Zain). Basically you get a raw deal.
