Here's my poor man's bare-bones solution
1. Get a way to capture the output from the Telly and feed that as a Mic input into the Laptop. I'm thinking in the line of suitable audio cables depending on what your telly has for output connectivity.
2. Install Freecoder on your laptop : Available from http://freecorder.com/ 3. Tweak your contraption as necessary.
Here's some quick reference for you to get the perspective :

PS : When Pluto was still a planet, during the Audio Tape (Cassette) <--> Audio CD transition, that's how we used to convert our Musical relics into digital format. Back then, in place of a 3rd Party Software, most of our PC sound-card drivers came with some nifty tools to achieve the same.
