Of course they need a list for marketing purposes; that's how they make money. Well, it's ok to register if what you're getting is worth it; they have to be in business. I don't know how those who don't require registrations do it; even if they rank better on Google (mean search engines...), what next? They have no means of retaining you; what value have they gained from you?
