@joe, we might be at lattitude zero but trust me, there is plenty of wind to go by. The turkana guys say the approx potential of that corridor is 27k megawatts, thats like a third of the grand Inga's potential.

Wind in my opinion can be better for water pumping or others that can cope with its unreliability.
