Hi, Have a look at the book "Agile Web Application Development with Yii 1.1 and PHP5". The entire book is written with both unit and functional testing in mind and the book and all examples are written in a TDD way. A more direct answer to you question is that to test application controllers you commonly use "Functional Testing".
