Regardless of whether you're a straight arrow or not, it is the outright violation of privacy just because they can that is the issue.

Imagine if someone followed you around daily, tracking your every step, and you knowing that they may use/twist the information they have against you...and there is absolutely nothing that you can do.

I do not think this espionage issue is that big in the event that you do not deal drugs, terrorism, money laundering. In any case, I do not think they spy to steal from your bank or Paypal account. If you are on the right side of the law, worry not! I may be wrong though.
