Business valuation is more on *net* revenue... e.g. If you check Wikipedia, Apple (at 259 Billion Market Cap as of 3rd Quarter 2010) is worth more than Walmart ( at 200 odd billion). When you look at profitability, Apple is at 14 Billion Net, along with Walmart (roughly the same 14 billion) ... Walmart has annual gross revenues of 400 Billion USD, while Apple has annual revenues of 65 Billion USD... Apple is on a growth curve, not so with Walmart... Just an example...
