My rationale is you need to do just as much work to buy a book from the Apple Store as you do from the Kindle Store i.e. you have to launch the respective applications, find the book you want and click to buy and download.

It will all come down to who sells cheaper books. I too intend to get an iPad and the only consideration for me is 
  1. who has more books
  2. who has cheaper books
