Not the case at all from my end, the switch between 2G/3G usually depends on the signal strength of the 3G network that your device is receiving. Should the 3G signal strength fall below a given threshold then your device will switch to 2G and then back to 3G when the signal reverts back to normal. So it might be that you are either in an area with weak 3G coverage, or something is up with your phone's antenna.
