The real-time internet has and will continue to cause disruptive
shifts in our lifestyles. Not only is it affecting how business is
being conducted, it has also greatly impacted day to day processes and
communication. Recent disaster reporting and resultant humanitarian
missions have been centred along the real-time internet as in the case
of the Haiti and Chile earthquakes and the post election crises in
Kenya. The real-time web has exponentially democratised information
production and consumption. During the Iranian election crises, the
world was informed of the happenings in Iran and vice-versa despite an
information blackout imposed by the ruling elite. The web is inherently
social, and the real-time web connects like minded people in an
instant. The Obama campaign was pretty much influences and energised by
the real-time web. At this #140conf meetup we'll have some of Kenya's
leading faces on the real-time web enlightening us and exchanging ideas
on how we can add value to our country via the real-time web. The theme
for this meetup is 'Social Causes on The Real Time Web' and will
feature leading social media gurus in the .ke scene such as Juliana
Rotich (@afromusing), Paula Kahumbu (@paulakahumbu), Marvin Tumbo
(@marvintumbo) and Victor Ngeny (@ngeny). It'll definitely be a great
networking and idea sharing forum
