I use Linux Mint <http://www.linuxmint.com/> 10 which started as a spin-off of Ubuntu but has also grown and has a Debian spin to it and is available for download in GNOME, KDE, XFCE & LXDE desktop versions .
I liked it first because it comes with all the audio-video codecs that most Linux distros have a restriction on ( Fedora etc, you have to do a post install for them) Other than that the Gnome version has an interface that is very accessible and the necessary applications to get you up and running straight after install, i'm saying this because I do very minimum customizations after installing.
One thing has caught my eye on this Linux Mint - it's based on Debian Testing package base. This means I can run all the latest versions of Apps, as opposed to those back-ports (is that what they are called?). I always see the "mainstream" packages on Debian lagging behind in versions, and some folks somewhere have to make some packages.... and I did not like that.
So now, I am not sure what to go for. Do I go for Linux Mint and I will still get the same user experience that someone running 10.10 will get, or do I get more than a folk running 10.10 when I use Mint?
