Going out on a limb here, let me dare send a piece of advice to students still in school who are enlightened enough to be on this list:

1. Pick ONE major language (Java, Python, PHP, C# etc) and one minor language (HTML, XML etc) and master the living daylights out of them!
2. Then pick one database, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MS SQL or MySQL and learn it very well
3. Be comfortable with Linux

I can assure you that you will not tarmac for long

Thinking further about this:

A fresh graduate who is proficient in PHP, Python, classic ASP, ASP.Net and C# and is also proficient in MS SQL and PostgreSQL is one of two kinds:

1. Someone who has dabbled in all of them therefore is not any good in any of them, making them cheaper to the employer.
2. An incredibly rare species of a graduate who has actually mastered all of these. These species rarely ever look for a job, jobs look for them. Needless to say, they are quite expensive, unless of course they have zero business acumen...

I always have this idea that if potential employers posted the salary range for a position, they would save themselves and the potential applicants a lot of time and effort.

To which an employer would say; we offer a salary commensurate with the experience of the applicant...

Which I think is crap because they have a HARD limit on the salo they can pay regardless of the experience of any applicant.

So why not give a range? E.g. from the legal minimum to that HARD limit?

But then again, I am not an employer so I wouldn't know any better.
