Hi Okech, Did you sort this out? I am thinking the problem is the return path. Can you post traceroute output from some of the devices that loose connectivity? When secondary interface is enabled and when its not.... On Mon, Aug 12, 2013 at 12:27 PM, Bernard Wanyama <bwanyama@eis.co.ug>wrote:
You could check: - the routing table (netstat -nr) - the interfaces and ports on which your services are listening (netstat -panet) - the traceroutes.... - and the firewall rules (iptables).
This will give you an idea of the state of IP on your machine.
Kind regards, Bernard

Well, still stuck - I have to completely disable the second interface for the incoming connections to work - really perplexed!

@Tony - the service is the IP service :-) Simple pings & telnet don't work anymore
@Wash - from my experience, it decides how it thinks IP services need to behave on a box, for complete control, I always use the networking scripts at /etc/sysconfig/networking-scripts/ to get the actual control I need. Network manager to me works best on a desktop environment with lots of different dynamic connections
I've removed NM & am now even in a worse state :-( Cant now reach the interface even when the private is removed - Let me troubleshoot this one first.
./Ok3ch

What makes Network Manager a monster? I am kinda blank on that, not being Linux savvy:)

Shit! NetworkManager is on! Let me uninstall that monster. The private IP has not gateway assigned, so routes are not affected at all - I have checked & double checked this.

Anyone with any pointers?
Is something changing the routes when you assign this interface the private IP?
Perhaps you should start by comparing the routes (netstat -rn) before and after the assignment of the private IP and see what paths are taken using traceroute.
