http://ec.europa.eu/agriculture/analysis/external/data-platform/full_report_... Quite an interesting read considering what simple information systems can do to spare us much political heat in Kenya. The easier it is to steal, the more it happens. The less we can steal or lose (in wasted produce) the less we will fight. It is a very simple but profound truth. Anyways chapter 3 is what would interest most of us on this list. Section 3.6.1.1 -> HW & SW (in 2008) for a Data and Info Exchange spanning a couple of EU countries = about 85, 000 Euro's = KShs 8.5M 3.6.1.3 -> Initial investment to set up Platform (including SW, HW, Legal Stuff, Office Space etc) in 3 months (only) = 311,800 Euros = about KShs 32M 3.7 -> Economic Sustainability - Something that must be factored into any initiative. Labor costs would be about 57% of Total Annual Operational Costs (Table 3.6 on 81 of 136) = 571, 200 Euros =about KShs 57M In Kenya, labor costs would probably be less than KShs 30M (not factoring in corruption & ghost workers) Table 3.8 (page 82 of 136) - Annual Operational Costs (including Labor) = 901,628 Euros = about KShs 100M per annum. Can each ministry not spend about KShs 130M per year on at least one information system to spare us much theft & tribulation in our beloved Kenya? Could our almost 50 Ministries not use that KShs 7B to help Kenyans generate an additional KShs 70B per annum? If it is happening we would be grateful to have more details.
