Just for your info. i use skype to communicate between USA, Portugal, SA and Kenya. I can guarantee you there is absolutely no delay (meaning the delay is insignificant in afecting the communication quality) The response and quality i get is just the same as making a normal gsm call. now you will be surprised that the voice data on skype is so little during a call YOU DO NOT NEED BRAODBAND AT ALL. it will work on slow connections. all it needs is a stable connection. Since all your family have laptops and a basic net connection, within the asterisk create sip extensions. Example : Watson ext : 0001 ( nairobi ) Watson Dad ext : 0002 ( nyahururu ) Watson Brother ext : 0003 ( mombasa ) Then download simple sip clients on each laptop/desktop plus headphones. Once they connect on the net, launch the sip clients and BOOM! registered. To place a call within the same group : tell the person whom you are calling to go online and launch softphone.
