Oh my, I think I am gwowing old...what is bonokos, bundes and mosetis? On 8/10/11, Barrack Otieno <otieno.barrack@gmail.com> wrote:
Moses, My final submission is that even the local dialects have their own slang, google is a global brand, there is need to use the standard language to cater for everyone, people out there pay through their noses to learn Swahili while we take it for granted, there are Kenyans in diaspora who might not be in a position to keep up to date with the bonokos, bundes and mosetis that is why there is need for standard swahili which is a great language, I bought my laptop in Europe and when configuring it I indicated I was from Kenya and the default language went to Kiswahili, nilifurahi ndani ya roho, me thinks a lot of R and D goes on before google can pull such a move that's why there is an option to switch to English which is not popular with those who church out the sheng and slangs. If you have ever been refeered to as babi then you know what I am saying.

Pure Swahili is NOT our local dialect..So it beats sense Why they Should put it as Default..Let English be Default and for those who need swahili can Change to it as was before..Am not being un- patriotic, It's Just such a bore to keep switching back to English..and Yes, even a sheng link..My grandmother Knows the meaning of "Chapaa" and "Bonoko" but has no idea what the Hell Ramani or wavuti means..

90 percent of Kenyans? I beg to differ maybe Nairobians, let google be, why is Kiswahili recognised by our constitution as a national language, better still how will the rest of the country close to fifteen million benefit? This is the reason we are talking about Kenyans for Kenyans we need equal opportunities for all , those who have been involved in ICT sensitization activities mashinani appreciate what google is doing. Localization is key to bridging the digital divide.

ATT to Google kenya techies, Can you Kindly take google default back to English..This business of figuring out what "Wavuti", "Mpangilio wa zana" , "iliyo kwa kache" MEANS is Driving us NUTS..Or better still take the Default to the local slang/sheng, otherwise 90% of kenyans dont understand Kiswahili Sanifu..
