why I asked this, a friend told me a scenario where they went drinking in a pub and the pub accepted mpesa payments, so the guyz drowned 5k worth of beer and paid by mpesa, only for the guy to reverse back afew minutes after leaving the establishment, and from that day, tha pub doesn't accept mpesa - so should this go on, then everyone will refuse these payments and we back to square one - not ideal. The case of card payments, the receiving bank actually initiates a transfer back, that is, if you bought something at Nakumatt, then the merchant has to be aware that you want to reverse the transaction, before the transaction is actually reversed. I had an arguement with someone at safcon and they didn't see the point of having such controls - which to me is knowing that fraud can occur and not doing anything about it. Thing is, if the guy has already chucked the money from an agent you can do nothing, coz probably this is someone who'll dump the SIM asap. But guys reverse all the time coz the guy who has received the money is usually still contemplating whether to withdraw the money or not. I'v not heard of a situation where the money has already been withdrawn and they've reversed the transaction... anyone?
