I managed to get a PS4 about 2 weeks before Xmas. When you first boot it up from the box you'll have to upgrade the firmware to the latest version the moment you connect to the Internet - you can't do anything until it's done. You could also download the firmware update to a USB stick, put it in a particular folder chain and upgrade offline - GIYF there. The USB way is also what you'll have to do if you choose to upgrade the HDD from the stock 500GB drive - guides and YouTube videos are aplenty on this. The PS4 hardware is more compact and silent than the PS3 - this is in comparison to the 2012/2013 PS3 model with a top-load disc bay that I game with from time to time. When you're in the middle of a battle on the PS4 and you pause you'll just hear a slight whoosh from the back of the unit - nothing distracting though. The hardware design is bespoke - Xbox One have nothing in this department - and the light on the console tells you what state it is in without having to look at the screen. It pulses blue when booting and steady white when you're ready to play. It pulses white when shutting down. The only thing I miss is the HDD light on the PS3 - but loading times are short so you don't really have to look for it. It's telling that the PS4 has slightly more graphics power than the Xbox One yet it's significantly smaller and doesn't have an external power brick like the M$ counterpart. If you experience a blackout when gaming it will start in safe mode - scanning the HDD for errors and all and warn you to always switch off before unplugging the power. I've had that experience about 3 times to date but no savegames disappeared or got corrupted - but I advise you to just switch it off when you're done with it. Compared with PS3 on a large telly (40+ inch) the difference in graphics is staggering - games are very well detailed and loading times are faster for disc-based releases - also note that it will output 1080p at all times compared to 720p for most in-game graphics with the PS3. Connecting headphones to the controller for wireless audio is a real plus when you're playing incognito - no need to tell the neighbours via the home theater that you're gaming at night. As expected all the PS4 games have online support as multiplayer is via Playstation Plus. Online requirements are not as pronounced on PS3, so having a good internet connection will make your life much easier esp if you're purchasing/downloading from the Store. The only drawback right now is the dearth of choice - but this is to be expected as an early adopter. However there are many interesting titles (Destiny etc) coming up in various months this year so that helps kill the anxiety a bit. So far I've played CoD Ghosts, Warframe, NFS Rivals, Battlefield 4 and Killzone: Shadow Fall. No disappointments there. However locally the availability of games is increasing - Gamechanger outlets (Sarit, TRM etc) have PS4 titles in stock and controllers are going for 7k apiece. At Diamond Plaza games are going for around 8k. However if you have a PSN account purchasing online and downloading it is your best bet if you have a fast connection - you can top up your PSN wallet from cardscodes.com - they are prompt in delivery and support is excellent. I haven't heard of anyone with the Xbox One yet so comparisons are welcome. Currently crossed my fingers very hard waiting for GTA 5 to come to PS4 - I have it on PS3...but once you're used to PS4 graphics...[?] On Wed, Nov 13, 2013 at 6:20 PM, Alex Ngatia <alex.ngatia@gmail.com> wrote:
