So, in Linux, a Server has a kernel different than a Desktop? All this time I've thought the kernel is the same across, but when you want to compile server apps, then you start pulling in some headers or .. yeah, whatever they call them. Sorry I am a bit ignorant on this.
From my playing with Ubuntu, I've never quite made a distinction between a server and a Desktop is not for installing the "server services". Is it assumed that X always introduces vulnerabilities on a "Server"?

I dont know about opensuse -- but it should be very similar -- on debian / ubuntu setups you would have to :
-- install server specific kernel image and headers -- remove the gnome / kde desktop
