@Chuks, is the time taken to decrypt a HDD proportional to the processing power you throw at the task? If so, suppose the CID hired a few botnets and asked IBM to demonstrate some of their Blue Genes (with veiled promises of sweet contracts to supply the govt core network), would that make the decryption more achievable?

I believe we all have tools that can be used to recover data from such devices. But lets see if they can do so from damaged e.g. by fire storage devices
