I've always wondered though, why the Send To Tv feature doesn't simply make use of DLNA. What was the motivation for pairing in the first place? The second screen still requires access to the internet, within the same network as the first screen's device.

[ long time lurker, first time real poster! ]I just stumbled across this thread and suppose this is as good a time as any to intro myself to the group.I'm British, born and raised not far from London and used to work at Google for 7 years in London and San Francisco as a product manager. Specifically I built YouTube's Send to TV feature and developed the DIAL protocol, both of which power some of the Chromecast software stackIf anyone's interested in finding more about the Chromecast technology or the inside story about how Chromecast was developed, I'm more than happy to share insights over some beers.So what am I doing here in Kenya? Well inspired by a 3 month sabbatical when I toured tech startups in Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria & Ghana, I quit my job at Google and have moved here to Nairobi to build a tech business. We're called OkHi and our we're solving the lack of physical address system here in Kenya.
