As a kid i believed everything i read in the newspaper or on TV. Everyone did, we were kids. It was this big magical authoritative source of information that i believed. Now that i am an adult i can filter the info. I know what is politically motivated, i know what is commentary and i know what is fact. I disagree that bloggers are not journalists. Bloggers are journalists. However any good journalist will tell you that bloggers are categorized under "commentary or editorial". It is one man's opinion and everyone has a right to their opinion. And a newspaper will label that page commentaries because it is just that. COMMENTARIES "one viewpoint among many". For example in theology there are a lot of writers who have written "commentaries" or study guides on different books in the Bible. These are meant to guide the reader through the original text. However they are never above the Bible. The authority on the information is the original source. For example if you are reading John MacArthur s commentary on the New Testament and you disagree with a particular point. You go to the original text to verify #Bible. In summary what i am saying is that a blog lends credence to itself by the veracity of its information and the veracity of the writer. You can only verify the data by talking the source. In this case before you make a final decision by talking to the organizers of Pivot25. info-Dev is an arm of the World Bank. And is the key financier of mlab and by extension of Pivot25. Do you honestly believe that if there was that kind of financial decay at Pivot25, WB would be involved in this? Sio kwa ubaya lakini tukuweni serious. Even responding to the accusations is lending credence to them. Yes all the money doesn't go to developers but it goes to funding m:lab. Which is a mandate by the WB to m:lab. They received seed funding to launch the thing, now they have to prove they can be sustainable. Pivot25 is an effort in sustainability. They generate money so they can offer services to mobile developers, and so that they dont have to be dependent on WB to survive. It is a space for mobile devs to get access to training, research, incubation, and regional markets. One space where large corp-orates can interact with mobile developers, while giving them the ability to test their apps on the latest variations of their platforms. It be-hooves us to read between the lines. And to say that they won the bid because of their skin color is nonsense. I was a judge on the panel that decided where the m:lab would be hosted. We received 49 applications from 16 African countries and iHub was the best! I am proud of that. Kenyans beat 16 other countries to host the first WB funded m:lab in the world! This information is publicly available at http://www.infodev.org/en/Project.116.html . Before we even gave the bid out we had sessions in various African countries where we asked developers what they want an m:lab to be. See here http://www.infodev.org/en/Article.517.html. In closing we must embrace a culture of research. Before you believe everything you read find out what m:lab is, what Pivot25 is, who infodev is. You must filter the information before we even respond to such blogs let alone read them. @Philip - You know him, how about those who read the article and don't know him. My point is, it pays for you to set the record straight if you are accused even if the person accusing you has credibility issues.

The man who publishes that blog has a lot of credibility issues and I think he is not to be taken seriously. Were it anyone else, I would have thought twice about his allegations. Maybe I am just biased. And not to mention his name calling and his racism. _______________________________________________ Skunkworks mailing list Skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke http://lists.my.co.ke/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/skunkworks ------------ Skunkworks Rules http://my.co.ke/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=94 ------------ Other services @ http://my.co.ke
