I think we're confusing dedicated and symmetric? All JTL/Faiba offerings are symmetric (uplink/download same). As for dedicated, that's a bit of a misnomer - it's true. At some point, every ISP aggregates their traffic together and the end use typically wants the dedicated bandwidth to be as far up the line as possible. So, if you're in Kisumu and you're paying for 10Mb and it's dedicated only to the local POP shared with 100 other users and the connection from that POP to the main office is constantly saturated, that's not as good as if the dedicated connection gets you closer to the resources you want. JTL offers 10Mbps/15/20 to residential and 3/6/9 to businesses for similar pricing on the theory that the businesses use more bandwidth overall (and that the businesses are less price sensitive). I know the JTL lines are dedicated at least to the POP and I've never seen throttling on my JTL connection below the 10Mbps defined at the circuit level. -- Kili.io - OpenStack for Africa: kili.io Musings: twitter.com/varud <https://twitter.com/varud> About Adam: www.linkedin.com/in/adamcnelson On Mon, Jan 6, 2014 at 12:58 PM, wa <wanangu@gmail.com> wrote:
I really doubt if this packages on offer are dedicated.

Adam, is 10mbps really dedicated? As in 10mbps uplink and 10mbps downlink?
In the organization i work, we are on 6mbps/6mbps link dedicated from Orange Telkom and everything is 100% fast despite
being 40 data hungry users. The bill is in the range of Kes 80,000 a month.
So am wondering, what would two users on 10mbps/10mbps do with all that internet? Am really curious..

dedicated - and they don't throttle as frequently at the international uplinks as much as the other ISPs as far as I can tell.

Just curious, are these speeds dedicated or shared?

Apparently they'll do 100Mbps but the pricing is non-rational. JTL is still the best ISP in terms of performance IMHO.

Adam, you can get as high as 15 mbps but prices are higher.
