Domains are paid for per year, and if not renewed it gets deleted ( becomes available for new registrations) So those are cases of domains not renewed after their registration period expired.

Sorry for hijacking this BUT,.,.,.,. True, but it isn't about not paying issue alone, me think - think there is more to that eg - Offers that last for 1 year and then dies (individuals capacity to renew dwindles) - Domain registrations hype - Seasonal companies/temporal ventures (like estate developers etc) - Lack of communication from the registrar via email or sms alert etc - Briefcase domain (is there something like that in english?) - Worse i think is customer service - and the registrars disappearances (briefcase registrars?).
