I think it's perfectly legitimate, but ...

The questions that I think would arise in case of litigation, imho (and I am not a lawyer, neither do I know how MS thinks), are
1. whether the same key displayed on the sticker is the same one that was used to activate the resident OS
2. how many times MS allows that key to be used to activate windows.

I think that if you are able to install using that key on the sticker and be able to activate the OS online, then you are safe - because it's MS systems that do the "Activation'!
