It's not only Carbon that has isotopes, what I'm not sure about is whether Tantalum isotopes vary according to location of mining. The biggest way to prevent this is to find other places to mine tantalum, and basically vet suppliers from source to market... Just wondering aloud: If it's possible to undertake oil fingerprinting to know its source, can a similar technique be performed on other minerals to know where they come from? Since they do it by measuring carbon isotope levels it may be tricky for minerals apart from oil and diamonds...any chemistry gurus here?
