Why dont we try and develop a Swahili Language pack for existing OSs like Ubuntu, FreeBSD and those other flavors, not only will it be relevant to our Kenyan market but it will make an inpact in the East African region too.

@Joshua,

Look at it this way: How may skunk(ette)s are fluent Swahili speakers?
If none of them is, then there'll be nothing to motivate such a project. From my Kenyan experience, these kubaffs are contented with English. Please remind me of the times when Kiswahili takes centre stage in KE. Take for instance if someone were to post here in Kiswahili, would you read it? For me, I simply click delete:-)

imagine how the world would be if all of us shared similar interests?

if as has been said "There are many local problems that require our expertise and can make an impact...an OS isnt one of them." does it mean taking an interest in developing an OS is mutually exclusive with the solution of other local problems.

and if there are - and they will always be, isn't it better to state and seek their solutions? at the time of investing it, was the $10 m USD investment in Ubuntu the "best way" for a South African to spend money?

members, let's be supportive. as Kenyans we have a tendency to impulsively put each other down (was about to say denigrate then seen it has similar roots to the N word)
