Umm.. I've not been out for ten years. I've had the chance to test them ten years ago and as recently as this year. I live in KE. And this is where i had my first Dialup about 17 years ago. Or was it 16. In any case, it's been progressively.. SLOW. I agree. It's good to be able to have a 256KB connection. It's Great in fact not just good. But let's take a look at: Dormans Sarit. Some of you may know it as my Sunday hangout from a few years back. And about two years ago, they landed a fibre connection. God help me, i was downloading at 4 MB/s that's not 4MegaBits, but 4,000KB/s. This is the reality of how fast our internet can be. I remember when the Fiber was landing in KE we had extensive talks here on Skunks regarding the bandwidth it was going to bring in and the estimated piping right now as well is close to 14 TB's of DATA. this makes me exclaim .. *WTF!* where is all that bandwidth going? and the answer we all get is.... either the infrastructure's not in place. Or What bandwidth? So in response to what anyone says regarding an up in bandwidth ( keep in mind, the 128 to 256 upgrade though seemingly an overnight thing probably took about a month in implementing and a year in timing so as to make their clients feel.. ooohh... they care ) I'm not for international markets. I'm not for living in another country. I'm for here. I am for a better tomorrow. I intend on there being changes here because i believe we can do a truck load better. Not just a little, we can be better than the US. The UK, probably better than the Asian countries from where my forefathers came . IF WE BELIEVE WE CAN!. Not with the attitude of .. YAY! so they upped the bandwidth a little, i'm going to go home and download a 3GB file in a day! YAAAY!! . ( I'm not pointing fingers, if i was i wouldnt be afraid of pointing names ) Have some integrity as Techies for what it's worth, i've been a tech in KE for close to 14 years now and i'll say this. We've got a long ass way to go to catch up with the rest of the world if we keep up our current attitude of yeah, someday we'll get that 15Meg link at home. Maybe my kids will get it. My two and a half cents. * W.* On Tue, Jul 26, 2011 at 6:11 PM, David Njuguna <dnjuguna@gmail.com> wrote:

@Watchie,
None of the ISPs have given us anything close to 64K let alone 256K. I have streamed an entire soccer match on Safaricom bambanet with very little breakage.
While you were out for 10 years, we were building the networks, and the quality and reach still leaves alot to be desired of. Welcome back to Kenya, and learn to live within the constraints, trust me internet is the least of them ;-)

PS. I have an Accesskenya link at home, It cant compare to Safcom. (Sorry Raymond it's the truth)

I'm sure this is a leap forward from everyone. And i'm sure it'll satisfy a lot more people but, for those of us who've had the chance to taste speeds in other countries about ten years ago, and up to as recently as this year, it makes a difference knowing how much the local ISP's make off the consumers. I can confidently say they've made at least if not more, 2 - 3 Million from my spending between home and Work use over the past twelve years.
And i'll also say this about the infrastructure that keeps getting mentioned. *SC#$W *the Infrastructure.
This has nothing to do with the infrastructure.
It has everything to do with wanting to make more money. I can get in to details about how much i despise what's happening but i'd rather make a difference. So.
Can anyone get me the numbers of TEAMS or SEACOM or KDN with a direct reference point? * W.*
