Seems like a good strategy for Safaricom. The key is not to move hardware, but create an ecosystem where owners or (addicts) of the now famous Ideos become huge consumers of data. I am sure they may be selling the phone at a subsidized cost but considering how these smartphones move data, soon their data sales may exceed voice.
I hope other players will not come back a few years from now and want to share the Safaricom Ideos ecosystem.
