Now that broad band is here, I have some few thoughts about communicating with my family, My Parents are in nyahururu, my brother is in Mombasa and am based in Nairobi. I was thinking skype, yahoo, due to the Video and Voice thing, my parents would def prefer this other than chat they do not know how to use, LOL, LMFAO  Blah blah.. and again typing is not in them at all, but again if I go Skype then there will be a delay coz am thinking the traffic would be international ( I could be wrong) am thinking if I make a call it will go all the way to the USA and then back again so I have a couple of ms delay
Reminds me of that Big Bang Theory episode where they were switching off lights somewhere in Asia...

Watson, ( STRICTLY EXPERIMENTAL PURPOSES ONLY ) my strong suggestion would be that you build an asterisk and publish it on the net. Since all your family have laptops and a basic net connection, within the asterisk create sip extensions.
 
Example :
 
Watson ext  : 0001 ( nairobi )
Watson Dad ext : 0002 ( nyahururu )
Watson Brother ext : 0003 ( mombasa )
 
Then download simple sip clients on each laptop/desktop plus headphones. Once they connect on the net, launch the sip clients and BOOM! registered. To place a call within the same group : tell the person whom you are calling to go online and launch softphone. Then watson calling his dad dials 0002 on his soft sip phone and connects.. :-)
