Am running a Dell Optiplex 755 Core 2 Duo and all efforts (Uninstall + reinstall, debugging on safe graphics mode) just won't work. I have tried it on an IBM thinkpad and everything is fine. Thanks a mill for the suggestions brought forth and many more are welcome.

Also you need to name your hardware so we can help...
for example Ubuntu and some other linux distro's have been known to have almost the same issues like you mention when installed on Dell optiplex 320

Generally, when it comes to installation issues, you could have missed important requirements and procedures during the installation process.
Go through the installation manual, make sure your system meets requirements and that you've followed the installation process. If you're sure that is covered, google the issue!

   Hi guys,

I recently downloaded the iso for Ubuntu 9.04 and installed on my
comp at home. However, the OS won't start up, all I get is a blank
screen after a few minutes of "failed" boot and the comp freezes.
Any idea on what could be causing it or why it is happening?
