umm.. Brian, Joshua. This is an integral part of the Web world now. Understanding such things are critical if you are a part of the tech world.

You must read documents that are published. Reading the tutorials online will simply provide you with a as i would put it " Transitional Knowledge" this knowledge allows you to move from part one to part two without difficulty.

Knowing how to do this without your fave'd tut site and without the Web at your disposal is what we had to do ten + years ago. I fear only a few people on this list that i am aware of are actually able to do as such.

Do not fear asking, a lot of us are here because we asked and now are able to answer.

There is no Wrong Question or a foolish question. Anyone who says there is claims to be no more than an IDIOT!
