Shadrack. Just to let you know that the levels of awareness may not be as low as you mention, its just that we have not strengthened the culture of sharing information and combining efforts to deal with such challenges, recently CCK advertised the Kenya Computer Incidence Response Team Workshop on this list and i am gland a nuber of presenters came from the skunkworks list, this were some of the issues that were being addressed by various stakeholders drawn from public, private sector and academia, we also had various colleagues from security arms that is the police, military and intelligence, however what came out clearly is the need for collective responsibility, it is your responsibility to educate the community around you. There was a lot of emphasis on sector specific computer Incidence response teams that would address the issues you have just raised, earlier this week i saw on another list how a Youth Social Network was hacked and KCIRT helped resolve the issue in record time, for more details you may contact Vincent Ngundi, copied to this mail. The other skunks who attended the workshop may also comment on this threat. Have a great weekend! Best Regards On Fri, Dec 2, 2011 at 9:19 AM, Shadrack Mwaniki <shadrack_mwaniki@yahoo.com> wrote:
The level of ICT skills and security awareness in very low or utterly neglicted in this country This is especially so in government ministries, parastals, corporations, Boards and commissions to mention just a few.
Tis conclusion is based on the many security lapses highlighted in this forum. For example, the current issue with the knec website. Imagine this is the national organisation charged with safe custody of our exam results. Not to mention the Kenyatta and Nairobi university current issues with thier online systems.
I propose the government sets up an ICT Auditor General Office with a responsibility to audit all ICT related issues of government Institutions and advise on areas to improve.
What is your take?
Regards Shad
