Almost all, no in fact I think ALL great developers (or who I say are very good) I have come across the world over are autodidacts. Me thinks there was a time being a programmer was cool, and there were a flood of "coders" who did it because of that reason, not because they had it in them; at that time php, mysql, java were the most popular language. So there a million people who can "do" php, joomla, mysql, wordpress - till you give them a project and ... shock! From my experience there are very few actual programmers.
