[Skunkworks] Web Service as A Data Source: What Output Format Does Birt Expect?

Hi guys, I'm doing birt reports and working with some complex sql queries (need to use variables etc...); my thinking is that the db drivers are not able to handle these SQLs coz Birt keeps complaining about SQL syntax yet they run ok via the terminal. The most practical work-around was to create a web service using soap server, since birt uses web services as a data source. When mapping rows and columns, what kind of output should the web service give? I'm accustomed to outputing lists in array form, but apparently Birt expects something different.
