Hi Skunks, For a new cloud product I am working on I would like to try and keep track the exact bandwidth/traffic used for each individual client. This is particular useful in a scenario where the access to the system is through a 3G bandwidth bundle (i.e. Safcom), and the owner is blaming the system for "eating" his bundle when in fact an employee's Facebook/Youtube activity is to blame ;-) To this end I would like to know a bit more about how the 3G traffic is measured and billed by local telcos, and I hope someone on Skunks have the insights needed: 1. Most billing is listed as per megabyte (i.e. 4kes per MB without bundle), but is it "per started megabyte", "per started megabyte per minute", or simply "per 1048576 bytes", or ? 2. When a bundle gives you 1.5Gigabyte does it then give you 1500 megabytes or 1536 megabytes as it should ? 3. Is the activity measured as the IP content actually transferred (the body of the TCP/IP package) or is the TCP/IP package overhead included ? 4. If it is in fact the full IP frame including overhead then what is the typical/maximum MTU size in a 3g network ? Enjoy. Michael Pedersen
