A note of something that was said. I agree that there is S/Ware out there that does everything. MS, Linux, Mac OS. All are international competitors. Far fetched from what a realist sees, but what about us being real competitors in this rat race? Even that aside, having a localized operating system from ground up, and being able to make applications that are compatible with all "real world" softwares, and build on that to make the operating system a local standard. the incentives are numerous. By me, for now, just getting this done would be a start. Martin Mucheke wrote:
@Rahim. Lets start by collecting views on an os kenyans want via FB, twitter & other social nw sites. @Odhiambo & the rest. An Os whose origin is kenyan will put us on the global map as an Ict hub. It is an indicator of our ambitions. Ur aware of nyayo pioneer & excitement it caused yet it failed. The prjct can serve as a local case study 4 our ict academicians & researchers. I agree it will cost lots of money & many yrs. But I think it is a worthy cause. For funding kenya ict board & kirdi. The latter has an ict r&d dept. But dont let the govt in 2 much lest they think it is a 2012 thing. The time is now 4 kenix. . Regards Martin ------------------------------------------------------------------------
