The speaker we last had, gave 2 weeks notice (I post announcements the Wednesday before the meetings as confusion can occur), so we had more lead time... What if speakers were required to confirm at least 7 days before the event is due for planning purposes? This isn't an unreasonable request and it presumably would help with turnout, audio-streaming setup, twitter-chat etc? Any speaker worth his/her salt should be able to RSVP within these limits.

Meeting reminders are many time's erratic because the speaker's take some time to confirm, if a speaker does not get back to me in good time, I cannot send out invites for the same... Given that I had proposed a date to the speaker, I cannot change on the last minute. There are instances where speaker's have cancelled 30 minutes to the event... We owe a lot to them, so I work with their schedules...
There is a list member working on Upgrading the blog and will be updating it every so often, so that is catered for as well. Additionally, the last event, the reminder was sent in a week before :), with a reminder on the specific day. I agree there needs to be some consistency, but we need spare hands for the reminders :).
On Saturday meetings, I'll confirm if the current venue will be available for Saturday meetings, if not, we can have some in a restaurant (this has been done before). The benefit of the Saturday meetings is that meetings tend to be more relaxed and interactive. However, my misgiving, as earlier pointed out is that Saturdays tend to be dedicated to family/social matters...

Secondly, the announcement "system" is poor and inconsistent, sometimes they are sent a day before the meeting. If I was in Nairobi I'd prefer a week's notice (with a few reminders in between). Instead of relying on a person to send the reminders, why not widely available technical solutions: an online skunkworks events calendar that people can subscribe to and independently do event-tracking.
Why are we "afraid" of technology? Or are the ideas simply lacking a champion?
