Are you managing equipment for a single organization?

I am looking for way of managing a large collection of laptops and tablets. Specifically,

1. managing organisation owned laptops in terms of entry and exit check-outs. Which is the best (technically) and cost effective method.
2. Tracking devices when they are lost, stolen, misplaced.
3. Dealing with check in and check out of devices by visitors (average of 3000 visitor - not all with devices - per day.

Anybody with experience on this? We are talking of more than 500 owned portable devices.
