Totally agree with Phares. An advice kenyan young entrepreneurs miss is first seek adding value to your clients and the dollars will definately flow, not the other way round. The later is what is called "putting the cart before the horse" On Wed, Jun 29, 2011 at 4:49 PM, Phares Kariuki <pkariuki@gmail.com> wrote:
You can get rich if you build your product well and target non corrupt fellows...
I agree, there are some who are corrupt, but there are several, especially in the SME space, who just want their SLA's met... It takes time to grow business, but it's more sustainable... On Wed, Jun 29, 2011 at 11:09 AM, Boniface <mboteb@gmail.com> wrote:
Just get a product that Kenyans will give you 10 bob a day. Assuming half of the 40 million feel good enough about the product to continue supporting it and have the philanthropy. Then as webmaster says, go on and target EA and beyond. Imagine how much money the betting companies are making. Just reduce the cost to rope in more people and then employ a skunk to run your simple office network.

Reminds me of a time not long ago when Barclays and other banks closed branches in areas not considered "top end" enough.
Gave rise to Equity, Family bank etc.
It was philosopher and poet, Georges Santayana, who said "*those who do not study history* are doomed to repeat it.

I think it depends on your target market and your definition of rich.
If my definition of rich is the ability to buy a new $3499 Area-51 ALX PC every month, then a number of ICT techies are indeed rich. You mean to tell me that the nice folks over @ SevenSeas, CraftSilicon, AT etc are not rich?
One common trend I have noticed with these top firms is that they target the top end of the market, not the common mwananchi or SME.

I believe you can never get rich off ICT in Kenya unless you get dubious tenders to supply computers at 20k when you buy them at 30k and even fail to supply and pocket the money. And I decided to be rich so am leaving IT :-)

No, but I am definitely implementing this strategy. I am in the process of pivoting from KenyanLyrics.com to something broader.
